The Midnight Raven Necklace of Figment Forest

As you stroll through the Figment Forest during the small hours of night on your way home, you're acutely aware of every glimmer of movement, and the noise of your own foot steps crunching twigs in the cool night air. The creatures of the forest watch silently from the darkness, only occasionally do you hear the scurry of feet or the light flurry of wings. You jump in fright when the distinct CAAW of the raven breaks the calm around you. Glancing up, you see him, sitting majestically on a high tree branch. He faces away from you as he calls into the night sky. The moonlight bounces from his sleek feathers and makes him look almost completely silver against the never ending darkness above you, it's a clear night and the stars twinkle brightly around him, giving him an eerie aura.

A chill runs down your spine, and you carrying on walking, your pace a little quicker now. You listen to the ravens call fading into the night behind you, and you vow not to visit the forest again at night.

All the Details

The Midnight Raven Necklace comprises of the raven pendant, soldered jump ring, and fine curb necklace chain. The entire piece is solid sterling silver.

The Midnight Raven Necklace has been hand made by me (Joanna). I made the pendant by hand sculpting and layering metal Art Clay, I then fired it in my small kiln at home. After this, a rubber mould was made and the piece was cast in solid sterling silver. The sterling silver casts return home to me, where I finish each and every one by hand. The next very special step in the process is then sending away my finished pieces to the Edinburgh Assay Office - where each of my designs is hallmarked with the Edinburgh Hallmarks and my own unique Figment Forest sponsor mark (a tiny shield with FF inside). Once all my pieces have been approved and hallmarked, they again arrive home with me and are ready to go to new homes.

The Midnight Raven Necklace has a sleek lightweight pendant. It is fully detailed on the front with a flat polished back, allowing it to lay flat against your chest making it especially comfortable to wear. The front of the pendant has been carved and layered to depict a tree branch with raven bird silhouette, it has been lightly engraved at a final stage with a speckled background to depict stars in the night sky. The pendant weighs 2.8 grams (not including the weight of the chain).

The pendant has been oxidised to a dark grey / black patina. The tree branch and raven have been polished to a lighter silver, to create the effect of a moon cast silhouette and create contrast. The pendant measures 3 cms including the bail loops, and 2.5 cms without the bail loops.

The chain that comes with this pendant is a fine but strong curb design and measures 22" in length. It is a beautiful chain that is smooth and silky to wear.

My Inspiration

All of my Figment Forest designs are created in my home studio. I live in beautiful central Scotland and work surrounded by birds chirping outside ,with a view out of my window to my garden - which is full of greenery and trees that brings me a lot of joy. Scotland is an enchanting place with so many tales of myth and wonder, these tales fascinate me and it's very easy to gain inspiration from them - which shows heavily in my fantasy designs. I photograph my work outdoors in my garden and also in a forest close to my home.
