The Forest Lock of Figment Forest

The forest comes alive as you carefully pass through, twigs crackling and snapping under your feet, leaves rustling and blowing in the gentle breeze, birds twittering from the tree tops, and perhaps... faint whispers in the air? Look closely... is that a tiny lock? It's so ornate, the swirls and intricate details well camouflaged against the tree bark. The perfect secret, small and mysterious. I wonder where the key is? And who holds it?

All the Details

The Figment Forest Lock Necklace comprises of the ornate lock pendant and a figaro necklace chain. Both the lock and the chain are solid sterling silver.

The lock itself has been hand made by me (Joanna), it is a completely original design, every small detail was created by hand with hours of care going into the overall design. I first made the lock from precious metal Art Clay, and fired it in my small kiln at home. After this, a rubber mould was made and the piece was cast in solid sterling silver. The sterling silver casts return home to me, where I finish each and every one by hand. The next very special step in the process is then sending away my finished pieces to the Edinburgh Assay Office - where each of my designs is hallmarked with the Edinburgh Hallmarks and my own unique Figment Forest sponsor mark (a tiny shield with FF inside). Once all my pieces have been approved and hallmarked, they again arrive home with me - where they are finished for the final time and are ready to go to new homes.

The lock is a substantial and weighty pendant, which feels as beautiful to wear as it looks. It stands at 3.4 cms tall, 2.1 cms wide, and weighs 12.1 grams (not including the weight of the chain). Each lock has been given an antiqued patina, with darker shadows resting in the grooves. The raised details have been lightly polished which give the whole design fantastic depth. (Please note that each lock is finished by hand, and the patina shades may vary every so slightly due to the oxidization process - each lock is unique and takes on it's own colours). The Lock is fully hallmarked with the Edinburgh Assay marks and Figment Forest sponsor mark on the back of the piece at the bottom.

The chain that comes with this pendant is an elegant figaro design and measures 18" in length. It is a beautiful chain that feels like silk to wear, it is slightly more ornate than your typical curb chain and compliments the pendant perfectly.

My Inspiration

All of my Figment Forest designs are created in my home studio. I live in beautiful central Scotland and work surrounded by birds chirping outside ,with a view out of my window to my garden - which is full of greenery and trees that brings me a lot of joy. Scotland is an enchanting place with so many tales of myth and wonder, these tales fascinate me and it's very easy to gain inspiration from them - which shows heavily in my fantasy designs. I photograph my work outdoors in my garden and also in a forest close to my home.
