Antique Victorian 15ct Gold Ornate Engraved Black Enamel & Shield Glass Locket Pendant

This stunning rare antique Victorian era locket is circular in shape and has the most intricate and mesmerising design. The front of the locket shows winding tendrils of vines, with a shield shaped cartouche in the middle. The design is accented in black enamel, which makes the gold vines and shield pop. The locket is further accented with a chased detailed bail loop.

The back of the locket features a glass panel which currently houses some locks of hair. The glass is held in a stunning raised repousse frame with 3D flowers.

A fascinating and beautiful antique find, this locket is a medium size and could be used for daily wear, or occasion wear. This locket has an elegant, almost gothic, alure. The quality of the craftsmanship is amazing - this really is a special, one of a kind, find.

SPECIFICS:
Metal: Tested as 15ct Gold (Locket). Bail loop is gilt base metal. The locket tests as gold of at least 15ct throughout, however we expect that the only solid gold part is the front panel. The repousse border on the back is likely a heavy gold cased - it does test as 15ct gold too, but we cannot be sure if it has a different core. Gold casing is very common in antique jewellery of this age, it's a technique where a base metal core is layered with a sheet of solid gold on top (a much better quality version of modern gold plating)
Size: 37mm tall inclduing both bail loops. Locket alone is 27mm in diameter.

The glass frame is a very secure fit in the frame and is not easy to take out at home, it could be carefully removed by a professional jeweller for you to put contents inside (a lock of hair or a small photo). If you would like our goldsmith to remove the hair for you, and leave the glass loose for you to add you own contents, we will happily do this on request - please just leave a note at checkout.(Doing this will customise the item and make it ineligable for return)

In good antique condition, with minimal surface wear to the gold and light tarnish, as to be expected from an old item. The shield cartouche has some pitting on the surface, perhaps from an old engraving that has since worn away. The enamel is excellent with just some tiny chips visible under 10x magnification. This locket has been professionally cleaned and polished, it's ready to wear or to give as a gift. Please see the photos.

We offer in-house ring re-sizing. Please contact us if the ring you like is not in your size, we will advise on if it can be sized and will give you a no obligation quote. Some styles (such as full eternity bands) cannot be sized at all, and some rings may only be sized within reason. We are always happy to give honest advice and guidance.

UK Orders:
Items under £200 are posted via Royal Mail Tracked 48
Items over £200 are posted via Royal Mail Special Delivery

International orders:
Items under £200 are shipped via Royal Mail International Standard (no tracking, but tracking can be added for a £5 upgrade at checkout if needed)
Items over £200 are shipped via Royal Mail Tracked

Delivery time will vary dependant on your location and the estimations given by Etsy are a rough guide but not guaranteed.

Please note that we do not provide parcel contents insurance with our free standard shipping. Etsy Buyer Protection offers insurance for all parcels upto the value of £200/$250, this is free and included as standard with all Etsy orders.
If you would like to purchase insurance for higher value orders, or if you would like expedited shipping - please message us for a quote, as we happily provide quotes for UPS and DHL delivery on request.
In the event that a parcel goes missing in the post, we cannot be held liable or claim for compensation unless insurance has been chosen.

RETURNS POLICY:

• We must be informed of the intent to return within 3 days of the item arriving, the item must be shipped back within 7 days of it arriving
• Returned items must be in original unaltered condition, must have all original packaging, and be sent back with full insurance. If returned with inadequate or missing packaging, additional charges will occur.
• Original shipping costs are non-refundable (postage costs will be deducted from the refund of any free delivery orders)
• For returns outside of the UK, a 10% restocking fee is charged.
• In instances where a client declines to pay an import charge, the restocking fee is 20%

NON-RETURNABLE ITEMS:
Pierced earrings cannot be returned under UK hygeine legislation.
Customised items (including resized rings)
Sale/clearance items, are considered a final sale and non-returnable.
