Antique Edwardian 9ct Gold Classic 5 Stone Old Mine Cut Diamond and Pink Glass Ring / Size O 1/2 or 7.75

A beautiful antique 9ct gold, diamond and pink paste five stone ring, dating to the late Victorian or early Edwardian period, circa 1900. Three natural old mine cut diamonds alternate with two wonderfully vivid raspberry pink paste stones, creating a lovely row of colour and sparkle across the finger. The larger central diamond has that gorgeous soft, slightly irregular sparkle characteristic of old cut stones, while the smaller diamonds at either end complete the graduating design.

The setting is particularly lovely and very traditional, with each stone individually claw set above an open gallery. The 9ct gold has developed a wonderfully warm, slightly rosy colour with age, which works beautifully against the bright pink paste and old white diamonds.

Paste was widely used in antique jewellery and was sometimes set alongside precious gemstones rather than being reserved for inexpensive pieces. Here the two pink stones were most likely chosen to imitate the rich colour of rubies, creating the classic alternating ruby and diamond look that was so popular around the turn of the 20th century. I think the mixture of genuine old cut diamonds and vivid antique paste gives this ring so much character. Colourful, romantic and over a century old, it is a gorgeous antique ring ready to be worn and enjoyed all over again.

Gemstones:
These amazing natural antique diamonds are all old mine cuts, with chunky facets and cut culets. They have been assessed and verified as earth mined.
The 3 diamonds measure: 3.25 x 3 mms, approx 0.12cts (middle), 2.25 x 2, approx 0.05cts each (2 end stones)
The total carat weight for all the diamond combined, is an estimated 0.22cts.
These diamonds are gorgeous antique examples. They are sparkly and catch the light. They have some tiny inclusions visible under 10x magnification. 
The two pink stones are paste glass, made to resemble rubies. they each measure 3 mms.

In very good antique condition with minimal signs of light wear and age related tarnish. The back band has worn slightly thinner with age, but this does not effect the structure of the ring which is still solid. This ring has been professionally cleaned and polished, it's ready to wear, to give as a gift, or to propose with. Please see the photos.

Please be aware that antique diamonds should be judged on a case by case basis as they were made before the time where 'The 4 C's' were used to grade diamonds, which is why we do not apply 'The 4 C's' in our evaluation. All antique diamonds almost always score low on this scale. Antique diamonds were cut by hand, not machines, by historical lapidarists who skillfully worked to make each individual diamonds natural beauty shine through. They were handmade so each is unique and one of a kind, which makes them impossible to grade with modern day chart and formulas.

• We must be informed of your intention to return an item within 3 days of delivery.
• Returned items must be dispatched within 7 days of delivery.
• Returned items must be in their original unaltered condition, include all original packaging, and be returned with full insurance coverage.
• If returned with inadequate or missing packaging, additional charges may apply.
• Original shipping costs are non-refundable (postage costs will be deducted from the refund of any order that received free delivery).
• For returns outside of the UK, a 10% restocking fee applies.
