A beautiful vintage sterling silver heart locket, with a wonderfully eye-catching engraved design that catches and reflects the light. The front is decorated with a series of tiny diamond cut facets, arranged in sweeping, curved rows that fan out from the point of the heart, arranged almost like a checkerboard. Each little facet reflects the light at a different angle, creating a lovely shimmering effect as the locket moves. The crisp geometric pattern gives this classic heart shape a particularly pretty finish, while the polished silver edges frame the design beautifully.

Heart lockets have long been associated with love, affection and treasured memories, traditionally worn close to the heart to hold photographs or little keepsakes of someone special. This one has a lovely combination of sentiment and sparkle, with a design that feels both classic and a little playful. A sweet and very wearable vintage piece, equally lovely worn on its own or layered with other necklaces, ready to hold something meaningful and begin its next chapter.

Inside the locket there is space to put two small photos inside, the locket still has both original frames and plastic covers inside. There is currently some floral paper inside, but you could replace this with your own little photos. Opens and closes securely from the side, closes with a firm click, to protect the memories you will put inside.

Sterling Silver Back and Front lockets were a popular form of jewellery during the late Victorian, Edwardian and early Art Deco periods. These lockets were manufactured with solid sterling silver fronts and solid sterling silver backs. To clarify, the metal at the front is a sheet of solid sterling silver, and the metal at the back is also a sheet of solid sterling silver. This method of construction allowed for the beautiful, deep engraving and decorative detail so often seen on lockets from this period, while keeping them more affordable than pieces made entirely from sterling silver. The sides, hinges and loose photograph frames inside were often made from a sturdier base metal, sometimes silver plated. Lockets were designed to be opened and closed regularly, so using a strong base metal for these working components helped provide additional durability and reduce the risk of damage or distortion.

Size: The locket measures 1.7 x 1.6 cms in size, and is 2.1 cms tall including the bail loops.

The locket can be purchased on its own, ready to add to a chain from your own collection, or with the fine 18" sterling silver cable chain shown in the photographs for an additional £25. The chain is approximately 1.25 mm wide and weighs 1.8 grams, making it a lovely quality match for the pendant. This chain is not included in the item price, but can be purchased for an additional £25 on request.

In very good vintage condition. There is light surface wear and tarnish, as you would expect of any preowned vintage item. This necklace has been professionally cleaned and polished, it's ready to wear or to give as a gift. Please see the photos.

We offer in-house ring re-sizing. Please contact us if the ring you like is not in your size, we will advise on if it can be sized and will give you a no obligation quote. Some styles (such as full eternity bands) cannot be sized at all, and some rings may only be sized within reason. We are always happy to give honest advice and guidance.

Items under £200 are posted via Royal Mail Tracked 48
Items over £200 are posted via Royal Mail Special Delivery

International orders:
Items under £200 are shipped via Royal Mail International Standard (no tracking, but tracking can be added for a £5 upgrade at checkout if needed)
Items over £200 are shipped via Royal Mail Tracked

Please note that we do not provide parcel contents insurance with our free standard shipping. Etsy Buyer Protection offers insurance for all parcels upto the value of £200/$250, this is free and included as standard with all Etsy orders.

In the event that a parcel goes missing in the post, we cannot be held liable or claim for compensation unless insurance has been chosen.

RETURNS POLICY:

• We must be informed of the intent to return within 3 days of the item arriving, the item must be shipped back within 7 days of it arriving
• Returned items must be in original unaltered condition, must have all original packaging, and be sent back with full insurance. If returned with inadequate or missing packaging, additional charges will occur.
• Original shipping costs are non-refundable (postage costs will be deducted from the refund of any free delivery orders)
• For returns outside of the UK, a 10% restocking fee is charged.
• In instances where a client declines to pay an import charge, the restocking fee is 20%

NON-RETURNABLE ITEMS:
Pierced earrings cannot be returned under UK hygeine legislation.
