Antique Art Deco 14ct Rose Gold Large Oval Rose Cut Diamond Target Solitaire Ring / Size U or 10.5

It's not every day that you see an amazing antique solitaire ring with a diamond this size! This exceptional diamond target ring is crafted from 14ct Gold with sterling silver detailing to the face, for a striking two-tone effect. This effect is very typical of the time period it was made (circa 1915) when sterling silver was often used to accent diamonds in a gold setting. We expect this ring is Russian in origin, the overall style, metal and tone combinations rings true of this origin. The amazing target style mount further suggests this piece is likely from the early Art Deco era, with the diamond itself being elegantly suspended in a second bezel to create the illusion that is it flaoting inside the outer frame. A sleek and stunning design.

Now onto the best part - the diamond. This diamond is a rose cut, and has a closed cup back and is foiled, and also has a lovely open work scalloped gallery. It has been tested and verified as genuine earth mined, and measures approximately 7.5 x 6 mms.
It's impossible to give an accurate carat weight for a rose cut diamond which is set in a closed, foiled back - however to put the size in perspective - a modern oval brilliant cut diamond with similar diamond face measurements would weigh around 1.10cts. The diamond is chunky and deep, it sparkles and throws rainbows/fire, it is just gorgeous. It does have small natural inclusions, and a couple of tiny chips to the very edges next to the bezel, but it still shines very bright and white with a glimmering silvery glow. Personally, we don't find the inclusions distracting and feel they are part of the charm of this beautiful antique. This diamond has the character we all look for in an antique diamond.

A rose cut diamond is a type of antique diamond that’s famous for its domed top, which features several triangular facets arranged in a rose-like pattern. This is where the name of this cut comes from. Unlike modern diamond cuts, which feature a large pavilion (the pointed lower section that gives the diamond its depth) rose cut diamonds don’t feature any pavilion. As such, the lower half of a rose cut diamond is relatively flat, especially when compared to a brilliant cut diamond. Because of their flat shape, rose cut diamonds appear larger than other diamond cuts when viewed from above. Rose cut diamonds have a fairly low profile. A rose cut diamond won’t extend out too much from its setting, making it an easy type of diamond to wear. It’s estimated that only one out of every 1,000 diamonds available today uses the rose cut, making this diamond shape exceptionally unique and uncommon.

In very good antique condition with minimal signs of age related wear as to be expected from an antique item. The ring shows light evidence of a previous up-sizing, with a small section of yellower gold in the back of the band which has been added in at some point in history (this could be removed if you choose to have the ring downsized). This ring has been professionally cleaned and polished, it's ready to wear, to give as a gift, or to propose with. Please see the photos. Please be aware that antique rings with foil backs should never be submerged in water or cleaned with modern ultrasonic jewellery cleaners.
