The bracelet is made from a series of individual black panels decorated with wonderfully detailed scenes in contrasting gold and silver tones. Each panel is different, with tiny deer running through landscapes, sailing boats on the water, birds in flight and delicate butterflies. Some of the panels are turned diagonally between the rectangular scenes, giving the bracelet a lovely varied design around the wrist.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJapanese damascene, known as nunome zōgan, is a traditional metalworking technique in which fine gold and silver decoration is worked into a dark metal surface, creating the wonderfully intricate scenes seen here. The motifs themselves have lovely traditional associations in Japanese art: deer are associated with longevity and good fortune, while butterflies are symbols of transformation and joy. Together with the little birds, boats and landscapes, they give each panel its own tiny story.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe bracelet itself is made from gold tone metal, with the dark damascene panels set into matching gold tone surrounds and backed with plain polished panels. The individual sections are joined by double links, allowing them to sit comfortably around the wrist, while a concealed box clasp and additional safety chain keep it secure.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFrom a distance it has a striking black and gold appearance, while up close each panel becomes its own tiny picture.
